At the beginning of our University Seminar class, we were asked a question. That was: do we believe college is for everyone? After being here at Texas State for roughly 7 weeks. I think I have found my answer. It really shouldn't matter what kind of standard society sets for graduating high schoolers. Going to a 4 year University should be soley based on, if you are actually intrested in a career that requires a higher education.
Many high school graduates are pressured into jumping into a university, when their true passion is not offered their. If you have a love for cosmotology, I believe you shouldn't waste your time here. No mater how many math classes you take or how many political science classes you take, your fix is still COSMOTOLOGY. That method of finding the right major for them, is for those who are undecided. These people do not know what their fix is.
For the parents out there who do not support acting, or boxing, or culinary art , they obviously have never been in love before. They have never loved something so much before that they would do anything to have that love be their career. That sucks for them. Not only did they miss out on having such a more enjoyable life, now they are keeping their children from having one.
I conclude that whatever you want to do with your life, do it! Do not let the pressures of what everyone else thinks is acceptable be the deciding factor for what you do with your life. I was only looking into majors that payed really well, because I'm so worried of being financially unstable like my parents were. I've finally stopped concentrating on money and concentrate purely on how much I enjoy it. Now I'm entering a major with a right below average pay and is more competitive. Yes, that stresses me out, but I'm going to have such a more fullfilling life!
