Getting involved!

So when friends talk about college with you, they usually advise you to get involved, join a group, and meet new people. At orientation, and Paws Preview these ideas are pressed once again. I knew that I would be apart of the crowd that does get involved, but I had no idea how much I would really enjoy Texas's organizations or how fast I would become involved.

I am currently running for vice president of Butler's Resident Hall Association. This organization is meant to coordinate events and resolve issues within said dorm. This leadership opportunity gives the student a chance to show and execute discipline, but also allows a lot of room for creativity and fun. This position really excites me. I love to lead and I really love orchestrating new ideas into events. I hope I'm elected, because I have a lot of awesome ideas and a really friendly attitude. I would bring order while also bringing an open mind and a positive, optimistic outlook.

I recently joined Chi Alpha. This is not a sorority or a fraternity. This group is a Christian Ministry that meets weekly and breaks up during the week for small group bible study. For me personally, religion is super important. School can be very stressful, especially transitioning into a university. Chi Alpha allows me to relax during my week and grow in a part of my life that I cherish so much. I really appreciate having come across this organization, because I get to learn more about my faith and share it with people who I have a common interest with an who I have learned to be very sweet people.

I have not joined a singing group yet, though am in search for a women's a Capella group. I would really love this group, because I have knowledge in music theory and I have a vocal background. More importantly, I simply love to sing. Singing is my outlet, and it's when I'm my happiest. I'm so blessed to have this talent. Hopefully I will come across this group soon and, my freshmen year will be complete!

Obviously, I have a lot going on very early. My week is gradually being reserved day by day for meetings and gathering and what not. Something I need to work on though is moderation. In high school, I was always too busy. While it's more comforting to have my life filled with adventure, I also need to allow time for studying and resting. This will prevent me from too much stress and random break downs during the semester. My goals for this semester are going to be to stay active in each group and fulfill any duty I must complete and to moderate my time and prioritize what needs to be done.
